Rockport, Texas

Rockport is a coastal community just north of Corpus Christi, TX. Large windswept live oaks are a dominating feature of the area and the state's oldest live oak, "Big Tree," resides on nearby Lamar Peninsula.
The city's beachfront park has won awards for "The Nation's Cleanest Beach" and the whole Aransas Bay beckons the sportsman, sailor and power boater with miles of uncrowded waters. All this info and more are located in the city's Tourist Center.
Above are photos of the Ancient Oaks RV Park, Texas Maritime Museum and shrimp boats along the waterfront.

Sunday in Rockport, Texas

Sunday brought us calm winds and warm temperatures. We trekked through Fort Worth, TX and traveled 435 miles to Rockport, TX for a one night stay at the Ancient Oaks RV Park (nice place). We had planned to only travel 200 t0 250 miles each day, but we were anxious to be at the water’s edge on the Gulf of Mexico and it was a good day for a drive.

Saturday, December 27, 2008

Late Saturday morning found us on the road -- finally. Wind gust up to 73 miles per hour on Interstate 35 convinced us to limit our travels today. It was difficult to hold "Stormy" on the road. We traveled as far as Dallas, Texas and decided to catch our breath, relax, and dine at Pappadeaux's where we enjoyed some of the best Cajun seafood on the planet. We did not travel far, but after lunch we did have a great visit with kids and grandkids in Dallas.

Tomorrow, if the winds cooperate, we plan to travel to Aransas Pass, Texas and take in some World Class fishing in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday with close friends. I will have the camera ready!

Getting the "Hitch Itch"

Sunday morning - we have tried several ointments and lotions, but have yet to find a cure for the hitch itch. It seems that the only treatment is to move on, but it is temporary and we find that we only "itch" for more.

Christmas will find us in Oklahoma freezing our ankles off. The temperature dropped down into the teens last night with a strong north wind rocking the RV. Toasty in the RV, but nasty outside. Today is planning day. We have set Saturday, December 27 for our departure date from Oklahoma to Mexico. We need to get "Stormy" ready for the trip (Our motorhome is a 34' Fleetwood Southwind Storm). We are making our final list now.
